5.2 Goal and scope

According to the ILCD Handbook, aspects relating to goal definition should be addressed first. The ILCD Handbook set out to identify the purpose of the different types of assessment in the building sector, and the target audience (architects, building designers, construction companies etc.). In total, four aspects have been identified: the issue of comparative assertions, selection of appropriate modelling approaches for the study goals (situations A, B or C); future technical developments; and innovation.

The aspects related to the scope definition are presented below in the order recommended by the ILCD Handbook. They aim to identify what to analyse, and how this should be done. These aspects are closely related to the goal definition aspects.
